As such, age-related changes that can alter the appearance of the face may make an individual feel as if their identity has changed over time. Frequently Asked Questions

Is plastic surgery common with men?
Men are living longer and staying in their careers longer. A younger look can help men feel more energetic in the dating world and stay more competitive in the workforce. For these reasons, men are seeking out plastic surgery in increasing numbers.

The emphasis in today's society to look healthy and youthful are embedded everywhere on TV, internet, radio, billboard signs, banner ads, etc. Image and self- confidence are attractive qualities. Women have always been on the forefront of seeking plastic surgery, but in today's world, there is no longer a stigma attached to men who are simply looking for cosmetic surgery to improve their appearance.

Why should men get plastic surgery?
It's about attitude and self-confidence. It's about positive change and being happy with the reflection that's looking back at you in the mirror. Exercise and healthy eating can alter your body in better physical shape, and most men want their facial appearance to match how they look and feel.

What are common issues that men face with aging?
Common concerns in men are the loose skin, "turkey waddle" and girth under the chin. Other concerns are droopy eyelids and bags under the eyes which makes them look and feel tired. Stubborn fat deposits around the stomach are also common.
Middle-aged men want to bring back the youthful contours to their faces. They want to look rested and feel assured. Dr. Miller understands what it takes to perform cosmetic surgery for men given that their facial features are different from women.

What cosmetic surgeries are popular for men?

Facelift and Neck Lift (Platysmaplasty)

The facelift procedure is designed to lift the jowls and eliminate the banding in the neck. A facelift is more than trimming skin. A quality, lasting facelift entails tightening the muscle underneath the skin and anchoring it in its natural position. This results in a clean, defined jawline and a natural, yet dramatically more youthful appearance. Dr. Miller accomplishes this by using incisions that are hidden and avoids the stigma of an artificial "operated" face.
A neck lift entails a small, well-hidden incision that is made either behind the ear, underneath the chin, or both. Dr. Miller will discuss the most effective options for your individual needs. The platysma muscle is identified and the edges of the muscle are sutured together creating a tightening effect. Excess skin behind the ear is removed and the soft tissue is secured in a more youthful, natural position.

Laser-Assisted Lipocontouring of Neck and Chin Implant

* Results may vary

It can be done as an isolated procedure in order to sculpt the contours of the neck and face, or it can be done in combination with a number of surgical procedures. Liposuction, also known as liposculpting, is a safe and effective way to contour the jawline, jowls, and the area underneath the chin known as the submental region. A tiny, well-hidden incision is made below the chin and then a suction cannula gently removes the fat from the affected areas.

A lack of chin projection can make the nose look larger and the neck look more saggy and less defined. A projected chin also conveys confidence and strength. The chin implant procedure entails a small, well-camouflaged incision on the undersurface of the chin. The implant is then placed along the inferior border of the chin and is secured in place with a simple suture.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) for droopy eyelids and bags under the eyes

* Results may vary

The aging process causes the eyelid skin to lose much of its elasticity creating an appearance of bunched up excess skin, bags under the eyes, and bulging in the upper and lower eyelids. The eyebrows will often droop over the eye exacerbating the problem. Using very small incisions in the eyelid, the excess skin can be removed and the underlying fat can be sculpted. Bags in the lower eyelids can be managed using small incisions either on the outside of the eyelid or on the inner surface of the eyelid making the incisions almost undetectable.

Body LipoSculpting for stubborn fatty deposits

* Results may vary

Liposculpting is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures performed. Often, localized fat deposits may develop in various regions of the body. These regions usually persist in spite of proper diet and exercise which contributes to the disproportionate appearance of the figure. Liposuction works by removing excess fat tissue which reshapes body contours and creates a slimmer appearance.

Are there non- surgical options for men?

Yes, there are a variety of affordable lasers and injectable treatments available to treat sun damage skin and facial wrinkles and creases (frown lines, forehead lines, lines around the eyes). Lasers can improve the texture, fine lines and pigmentation in your skin caused by decades of sun damage. Additionally, the Vbeam laser can remove those red, facial veins found on your nose and face.

Injectables such as Botox and Dysport can near instantly smooth out those forehead creases and deep frown lines between your eyebrows. Those deep lines make you appear angry, worried and stressed out. With a few simple injections, you look more rested and refreshed.

Injectable fillers and volumizers such as Radiesse and Juvederm can immediately restore volume to your smile lines. Deep smile lines (aka parentheses around your mouth) bring attention to the facial downward droop that accompanies aging. Injectable treatments can easily correct this problem. The procedure is comfortable and can be done in a single office visit with Dr. Miller. Fillers can also help improve the look of any facial scars and depressions by bringing back volume to the sunken area.

What surgical procedures can help this man look more rejuvenated?

Even though this man is still relatively young, he has submental fullness and laxity of skin in the neck as well as mild jowling which all detract from a nicely defined jawline. He has deepened nasolabial folds and dynamic wrinkle lines around the eyes (crow's feet).
