MYTH: Botox will make you look fake
It’s a common misconception that Botox is super obvious or that Botox will make you look “frozen”. It’s simply not true that Botox will make you look fake. Botox can help with wrinkles while still looking natural and allowing movement.
MYTH: Botox is poisonous
Many people assume that Botox is poisonous because it is derived from botulinum toxin. However, when used for aesthetic purposes by a licensed professional, the provider will ensure safety, efficacy, and proper dosing. Botox Cosmetics has also been FDA approved for over 20 years to treat facial wrinkles!
MYTH: Botox and fillers are the same
Botox and fillers don’t actually work the same. Botox temporarily relaxes muscles to prevent muscle contractions that are the cause of wrinkles. Dermal fillers, such as Juvedermhttps://www.dermfx.com/medspa/injectables/juvederm/ or Restylane on the other hand, restore volume and contour the face by adding in a gel like product made of hyaluronic acid.
MYTH: Botox is only used for wrinkles
Most people know that Botox is used for reducing the appearance of wrinkles but did you know that Botox also has a variety of other uses? The popular treatment “lip flips”, uses Botox to temporarily ‘flip’ the lip up to make the upper lip appear larger. It can be used to treat migraines, slim the jaw area, treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), temporarily lift the brows and more!
MYTH: Botox is immediate
Unlike dermal fillers, it can take up to 14 days to notice the full effect of Botox.
MYTH: Botox is painful
Contrary to what many people seem to think, the Botox injection is not painful! The needle is very small, the process is fairly quick, and most patients don’t even need to ice beforehand. However, we can still provide ice or numbing cream to make the treatment more comfortable for you if needed!
MYTH: Only older people get Botox
This is another common myth that is simply not true! A lot of younger people get Botox to prevent wrinkles. As a matter of fact, many of our patients actually start in their 20s, even before they notice static lines forming.
