Lucent IPL featured

Lucent IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), also known as photorejuvenation, is a low-risk, light-based treatment clinically proven to reverse environmental skin damage, which causes premature aging, sun spots, redness, and acne scars. Acne is extremely common, and approximately 40% of adults suffer from it. (1) Aging, pregnancy, and hormonal changes can leave your skin looking unrecognizable. The good news is, IPL treatments will help your skin have a better tone and texture for a more youthful appearance.

About IPL

IPL is a non-invasive procedure that delivers pulses of light energy that target specific skin structures, such as melanin and blood vessels, without harming the surrounding tissues. This advanced technology allows for precise targeting and effective treatment of various conditions like:

  • Acne
  • Pigmentation Issues
  • Sun Damage
  • Scars
  • Vascular Lesions
  • Rosacea
  • Age Spots
  • Freckles
  • Wrinkles
  • Fine Lines

Light energy stimulates the production of collagen to rejuvenate your appearance, leaving you with younger-looking skin. As the new collagen forms, it softens the appearance of aging skin and decreases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Lucent IPL reduces redness associated with rosacea, and can also:

  • Improve skin tone: The collagen production from the laser removes brown spots, sun damage, and vascular lesions for a more even skin tone.
  • Improve skin texture: The collagen production will help your skin maintain its fitness and elasticity for a smoother, more youthful appearance.
  • Reduce pore size: If you have large, oily pores, the treatment can reduce their size to enhance the appearance of your skin.

A Versatile Anti-Aging Treatment

Lucent IPL treats sun-damaged skin, age spots, large pores, hyperpigmentation and more. In a recent study, patients saw an 80-90% improvement in vascular complexion problems such as vascular redness (telangiectasias) and rosacea. (2) Lucent IPL is also used as a preventative measure against common signs of aging and a wide range of skin types can be treated. Lucent IPL treatments are safe for your face, hands, neck, chest, and any areas with sun damage or pigmentation problems.

Candidates

Photofacial IPL

Ideal candidates for IPL treatment are individuals who are bothered by skin concerns such as pigmentation issues, sunspots, acne scars, rosacea, vascular lesions, or signs of aging. These men and women may have tried other treatments with limited success or are looking for a non-invasive option to address their particular skin condition.

It is important for candidates to have realistic expectations about the outcome of the procedure. Age is not a limiting factor, as IPL treatments can be effective for patients of various ages. During a personal consultation at DermFX, we will evaluate your unique situation, discuss your goals, and determine if you are a suitable candidate.

Personal Consultation

During your consultation, we will discuss any previous cosmetic treatments you may have received, and listen to your aesthetic concerns. We will examine the area(s) of concern and recommend the most appropriate treatment based on your unique needs.

We encourage you to ask any questions you may have during the consultation process to ensure that you have a comprehensive understanding of IPL and feel confident in your decision. Our friendly and knowledgeable team will be available to address any queries or concerns you may have.

Preparation

To prepare for an IPL appointment, you will need to limit your sun exposure and you may need to change the facial products you use. If you use retinoids, we may ask you to stop using them before your appointment, depending on your treatment plan. You will need to be prepared to take good care of your skin before and after your treatment for the best results.

Procedure

First, we will cleanse and numb the treatment area. After we numb the area, the DermFx team will apply a cooling gel. When the pulses of light are delivered by the Lucent IPL handpiece, the sensation is similar to the snap of a rubber band. After your treatment, we will cleanse the skin and apply sunscreen to protect it during the first few hours of your recovery. You will likely experience a warm sensation for an hour or so after the treatment. If you have sensitive skin, you can use a cool compress for any discomfort you might have. The length of your procedure varies from 15 to 45 minutes depending on the size of the treatment area.

Recovery & Results

Immediately following the procedure, you may experience some redness, swelling, or a darkening of pigmented areas. The redness and swelling clear up within one to three days. The darker areas will start to flake and peel off after a few days to one week. It is extremely important to apply an SPF 30 or higher sunblock with a moisturizer and avoid sun exposure on a daily basis to prevent additional sun damage. You can apply makeup to the treated area after using a moisturizer and SPF. After your treatment, your hair growth may be impaired in the treated area.

Photofacial patients have a high degree of satisfaction with their results.

After your treatment, you can expect to see a gradual decrease in redness, broken capillaries, flushing, irregular pigmentation, pore size, and fine lines. Your skin will feel smoother and appear to have a clearer, more even tone after each treatment.

Results

After a Lucent IPL treatment, you can enjoy smoother skin. The intense energy pulses restore your skin after sun exposure. Sunspots will gradually fade, and you can enjoy renewed, younger-looking skin with long-lasting results. To maintain your results, you will need to avoid sun exposure and take good care of your skin.
